The meaning behind this artwork:
"Blessed are the children is particularly exciting to me because it expresses a peacefulness that we can have while in the valley of our lives. In the valley there are seven children - seven symbolizing the Lord's perfect number.
The composition of the painting is done in a 'V', directing the viewer's eye to the child kneeling, head bowed, in a prayerful position. The child standing to the right is looking back toward the church, which represents the body of Christ. The rock wall symbolizes the hedge of protection found in the book of Job (1:10). In the lower portion of the painting is the vine, symbolic of the true vine, 'I am the vine you are the branches' (John 15: 1-5). In the sky are three birds, these symbolize the Trinity. The mountains represent the mountaintop experiences we have all enjoyed, but the valley is where spiritual growth takes place represented by the lush foliage and flowers.
The importance of the child, being in a prayerful state, shows us that while walking through the valleys of our lives there can be a peace that surpasses our understanding."
